Explain climate change and discuss three strategies that countries are Essay
Explain climate change and discuss three strategies that countries are using to help the prevention of global warming and say whether you agree or disagree with the effectiveness of each strategy - Essay Example However, this understanding has not resulted in any significant reduction in the rate of Global Warming, with the 20th Centuryââ¬â¢s last two decades being the hottest in 400 years (National Geographic 2007). Global Warming is seen as a threat to human health (Hambling et al., 2011 p. 2) with other concerns such as food security issues also expected in the future. Due to the growing awareness about this issue along with pressure-groups in the form of environmental NGOs, countries have been forced to take action in order to prevent further damage to the ecology. Initiatives such as the Kyoto Protocol have been welcomed by most of the world, which promise to reduce carbon emissions to a suitable level by a certain date. This essay will look at 3 of the many strategies that countries adopt in order to prevent global warming on a national scale, which may be due to their participation in international agreements/conventions like Kyoto Protocol or due to a national agenda of their own. Investment in renewable energy is a preferred strategy for most industrialized countries that aim to reduce their carbon emissions. $173 billion were invested into developing sustainable energy in 2009, a figure that fell after the global recession affected the financial situation of most of the involved countries (UNEP 2010 p 11-13). Some countries, like Iceland produce electricity using entirely from renewable resources, thereby leaving a minimal carbon imprint. Most countries, developed and developing possess the environmental conditions required to produce such energy; however, in the case of the latter, they do not possess the financial resources to exploit these conditions. The Kyoto Protocol aims to rectify that by encouraging developed countries to invest in reducing the carbon emission of developing countries, through such projects (UNFCC, n.d.).

Trumpet Voluntary Essay Example for Free
Trumpet Voluntary Essay The novel, Trumpet Voluntary, was written by Jeremy Harmer. This story is about unhappy love. One day when Derek came home he discovered that his wife had disappeared. He offended the members of his music quartet by leaving them to follow his wife to Rio de Janeiro. It was especially difficult for a cellist Rachael, who had fallen in love with Derek when they were students. Having arrived in Rio de Janeiro he met a Cuban detective Oswaldo, who helped him find his wife Malgosia. When Oswaldo found some information about his wifeââ¬â¢s location they immediately went there. It was a big white bungalow, where she was with her first boyfriend Tibor. Tibor was a gangster and on that day he waited for his gang members. Oswaldo and Derek were observing them at a distance. Suddenly Derek ran to Malgosia when she left the house but one of gang members fired a gun at him. Luckily Derek survived because Oswaldo took him to the hospital. In the hospital he learned from Oswaldo that his wife had been flown back to her family in Warsaw. In Warsaw he learned from Malgosiaââ¬â¢s parents that she had died. She had been poisoned by some form of nerve gas or some kind of chemical agent. When he came back home he had problems with the police. Rachaelââ¬â¢s mother was a lawyer and she helped him avoid troubles. At the end Rachael and Derek married. Derekââ¬â¢s life gradually became better. The issue of this book is love. Tibor was a gangster and he involved Malgosia in his criminal deals. He caused a lot of trouble for her. Tibor used her to transport nerve gas from Scotland to Brazil. Malgosia was a musician and no one was going to search a trumpet case. After learning that he had used her only for fun Malgosia killed herself, having opened the case of nerve gas. What dramatic consequences! In my opinion, she shouldnââ¬â¢t have started relationships with Tibor again because she had known what kind of person he was. Malgosiaââ¬â¢s story shows that people can do anything for love. What about Derek? He was a good and kind man. He didnââ¬â¢t understand how much Rachael loved him. Rachael was a woman with good manners. Dereksââ¬â¢s father told him that Malgosia wasnââ¬â¢t his type of women. If he had listened his fatherââ¬â¢s advice, then he wouldnââ¬â¢t be in troubles. I think sometimes people find love but they donââ¬â¢t realize that love can be nearby.

Carpe Diem in Poetry :: Poem Poetry
The Latin term carpe diem is a descriptive word for literature that presses readers to "seize the moment." It mainly tries to pursue a woman or women that they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks now before time will take a toll on them. The word carpe diem puts impact on examples of both poems of, "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" by Robert Herrick, and "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell. Herrick's poem, "To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time," portrays carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and persuading young women to marry and enjoy the life of youth at its advantage before death takes its turn. In the poem "To His Coy Mistress", Marvell consist more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. He uses examples of time and age diminishing her beauty and youth and will leave her with nothing left. They both compare to each other by making the most of each moment before old age and beauty disappears. Herrick's "To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time" fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing detachment from the personal environment pursues his own view of time and life. Then not be coy but use your time, And, while ye may, go marry: For having lost but once your prime You may forever tarry.
The Life Support of the Forestry Regime: Case Studies of Two Transnatio
The Life Support of the Forestry Regime: Case Studies of Two Transnational NGOs Introduction As relatively new actors in international relations, nongovernmental organizations or NGOs are becoming a vital component for successful environmental regimes. NGOs organize transnational advocacy networks that link state actors, businesses, and other organizations. The forestry regime is relatively weak as compared to other environmental regimes because of a lack of international agreements and state policies regarding forest conservation. NGOs have attempted to fill this state actor void and are beginning to shape the quality of the regime by establishing principles to guide state behavior. NGOs have developed conservation and management strategies, financed reforestation projects, and fostered business partnerships. This essay compares the strategies of the World Wide Fund for Nature (referred to as the World Wildlife Fund-WWF in English speaking countries) and Rainforest Alliance, two international NGOs that are involved with forestry projects in developing countries. The c omparison indicates that both increase public awareness through different strategies. The WWF defines overarching goals and finances broad programs and the Rainforest Alliance focuses on industry through certification programs. Though both NGOs have not significantly changed international policy, they have been successful in creating a civil society to support the regime. If NGOs continue to change the publicââ¬â¢s values and increase their involvement with local communities, they will become an even greater source of strength within the forestry regime. Million
Since this is a website concerning the sell of pixels for a dollar and having the public buy and advertise their pages or business for only a dollar. According to the innovator, who thought of the idea to pay for his college degree achieved a sold out audience achieving one million dollars. The milliondollarsailor.com is trying to achieve the same goal but to use the funds generated to give 50% to the creator of the site and the other half to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society. Although, the intention for the purpose of the money is a great idea, the case arises in how to promote a new idea in informational technology. First, the website should be clear on its goal and purpose for the site. Presently, the website lacks explanation and what the customer should see as the outcome. If the person does not go to the milliondollarhomepage.com, than it is not aware of the end result. The site is sort of an advertising mall that you pick the box that can get you the product. Marketing a website like this a bit of the problem because what is the gimmick to attack people to it. In order, for someone to want to buy a pixel it must have a business or be offering service in order to advertise. However, for this site good way to spread the word about the site is through search engines, spreading flyers to the public, and placing banners through sources like myspace.com and sites that support the armed forces. Another way how the site can get promotion is through college students that are studying web design and marketing strategies to design links to the site from their pages to connect to yours. Also by offering that the site is a permenanted avenue for them to get hits to their website or corporate sites people are more likely to buy because it is something that will always generate customers. The most important tool your website can do is provide information to those interested in purchasing a pixel and letting them know it is a great investment that will generate business relationships or contacts. In the long run, the customers generate more business and the creator and the corps get a winning result. References: Tew Alex (2005) The Million Dollar Page; Copyrighted by Alex Tew 2005.
